My new girlfriends ex has just died...?

Hi there..Im in a bit of a muddle..My beautiful new girlfriends ex died yesterday...they "were" engaged and he was found with the engagement ring on him.she has been in pieces since she found out..they only seperated 2 months ago due to his drinking i think..i dont know how to act..any ideas would be appreciated.
